Cookie policy

Cookies are small text files a website stores on your phone or computer. This page explains which kinds this site may use, what each is for, and how you stay in control of the ones that are not strictly necessary.

Cookies on this website

When you open a page on this website, your browser may be asked to store a small file called a cookie. The file lets the site remember something for a short time, such as whether you have already seen a message, or helps us understand which pages people find useful.

Skyline Swindon Roofing is the company behind this site. If you want to know what we do with any personal information a cookie collects, read the privacy policy alongside this page.

The rules on cookies come from the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and UK data protection law. Put simply, cookies a site needs in order to work can be set without asking. A few narrow uses, such as basic visit statistics, may be allowed if you are told and can easily object. Everything else needs your agreement first.

The kinds of cookie you may meet here

Cookies fall into a few groups, and the group decides whether we need your consent.

TypeWhat it doesYour consent needed?
Strictly necessaryKeeps the site working, remembers your cookie choice, and helps protect the enquiry form from automated abuse.No, because the site would not work properly without them.
PreferencesRemembers a setting you have chosen, so you do not have to repeat it on the next page.Yes, unless it is needed for something you asked for.
AnalyticsCounts visits and shows which pages are read, so we can see what is useful and what is confusing.Yes.
Third party contentSet by services embedded in a page, such as a map or a video, which may record that you viewed it.Yes.

We keep the number of cookies low on purpose. A roofing website has no need to follow you around the internet, and we do not run advertising that does that.

Strictly necessary cookies

These are the cookies that let a page load, keep a form working and remember that you have made a choice about cookies. They hold no information that identifies you personally, and they are usually deleted when you close your browser or after a short period.

Because the site relies on them, they are set without a prompt. If you block them in your browser, parts of the site such as the enquiry form may stop working, and the cookie notice may reappear on every page.

Analytics cookies

Analytics tools help us see how many people visit, which pages they open, how long they stay and roughly which type of device they use. We use this to improve pages that are hard to follow, for example a cost page that people leave quickly or a service page that is never reached.

These cookies are only set after you accept them in the cookie notice. The figures we look at are totals, not records of named individuals. If you refuse, nothing about your visit is added to those totals and the site works exactly the same.

Embedded content and third party cookies

Some pages may include content from another provider, such as a map showing where an area sits or a button that opens WhatsApp. When that content loads, the provider can set its own cookies or read ones already on your device, and it decides how it uses them. We do not control those cookies.

Where we embed this kind of content we aim to load it only after you agree, or to use a plain link instead, so that nothing is sent to the provider until you choose to open it. The provider's own privacy and cookie notices explain what it does with the data.

Clicking a link to an official site, such as a council or the Planning Portal, takes you away from this website. Those sites have their own cookie policies.

How long cookies last

Cookies come in two lengths. A session cookie disappears when you close your browser. A persistent cookie stays on your device until it reaches its expiry date, or until you delete it yourself.

  • Cookies that only keep the site working are normally session cookies or last a short time.
  • The record of your cookie choice lasts long enough that we do not have to ask you on every visit. It is then asked again, so that your choice stays current.
  • Analytics cookies, where you have accepted them, last for a limited period set by the provider, and are normally measured in days or months rather than years.

The browser settings described below let you see the exact expiry date of any cookie stored on your device.

How to accept, refuse or delete cookies

Using the cookie notice

When you first arrive, the notice lets you accept or refuse the optional cookies. You can change your mind later by clearing the cookies for this site in your browser, which makes the notice appear again on your next visit.

Using your browser settings

Every common browser lets you see, block and delete cookies. The menu names differ, but you will usually find the controls under Settings, then Privacy or Privacy and security. From there you can:

  • block all cookies, or only those from third parties;
  • delete cookies already stored, for one site or for every site;
  • choose to clear cookies each time you close the browser;
  • browse in a private window, where cookies are removed when the window closes.

Blocking everything can stop some sites working properly, including forms that need a small amount of stored information to send a message. If something on this site stops working after you change a setting, try allowing cookies for this site only.

On a phone or tablet

The same controls sit in the settings of your mobile browser. On most phones there is also a setting that limits tracking across apps, which you can use alongside the cookie notice.

Changes to this policy and getting in touch

We may update this page if the cookies we use change or the law moves on. The version here is always the current one. If we begin using a new category of cookie that needs your consent, the notice will ask you again.

If you have a question about a cookie on this site, ring 01793 626096 or use the enquiry form and we will explain what it is for. For how we handle personal information more generally, see the privacy policy. If you want to understand your wider rights, the Information Commissioner's Office explains them on ico.org.uk.

Note: this policy is a first plain-English draft, and a qualified legal adviser is due to review it; wording may change once that review is done.

Cookie questions for visitors to this site

Will refusing optional cookies stop me sending a roofing enquiry?

No. The enquiry form relies only on the cookies the site needs to work. Refusing analytics or third party cookies leaves the form, the phone number and the WhatsApp link fully usable.

How do I make the cookie notice appear again after I have chosen?

Clear the cookies stored for this site in your browser settings. The record of your choice goes with them, so the notice returns on your next visit and you can choose again.

Does this site follow me round the internet to show me roofing adverts?

No. We do not run advertising that tracks visitors across other sites, and none of the cookies described here exist to build that kind of profile of you.
